SOLARWAVE Yachts hopes to launch a revolution in the way we yacht by offering builds that are energy efficient and eco-friendly, without sacrifice to space, performance and luxury. While most yachtsmen are committed to green inititatives, follow through is not always easy, especially with demanding guests on board. SOLARWAVE Yachts is poised to change all that.
SOLARWAVE 64, the newest launch for this cutting-edge Swiss shipyard, comes in three versions; Cruiser, Power and Sailor. Whichever build you prefer, SOLARWAVE Yachts promises to deliver freedom and autonomy. Owners enjoy noiseless cruising at speeds of up to 10 knots, zero emissions and unlimited range without the need to refuel, recharge or fill up the water-tanks. (The watermaker can produce up to 3 tons of fine potable water every day.)
The Solar-Hybrid-Yachts can be customized for serial or parallel hybrid propulsion with various engine-types. For passionate sailors, there is a “Sailor” version. On all models, solar panels are integrated in the roof, so there is no windload on them. The batteries and electric-motors are inside the boat in a dry and safe place. All wiring is tin-covered and all plugs are specially designed so water or humidity cannot enter. All parts exposed to the marine environment are made of corrosion-resistant materials.
For rare conditions such as long periods of bad weather or a high cruising speed required over several days, all “Cruiser”- and “Sailor”- models have a Range-Extender, which starts automatically when the batteries are low. This is a diesel-generator or a diesel-turbine recharging the lithium-batteries.
The initial rigorous five-year sea-trial began in January 2010 aboard the SOLARWAVE 42. The crew crossed the whole of Europe by river, sailed the dangerous Black-Sea, the stormy Aegean and the Med. This experience lasted more than 140 weeks. During this time Solarwave accommodated 6 – 8 guests with electrically prepared full board, water-production, cooling and heating.
SOLARWAVE 42 was able to power the engines every day in all weather-conditions. In storms of force 9 as well as in calm, with sun, rain, cloudy sky, snowfall and ice. All exclusively with solar-power. During this period of 5 years there was no need for maintenance or repairworks, neither the solar-plant nor the batteries or the electric-engine. The generator, which had to be on board for safety-reasons, worked just 30 hours in five years, primarily to avoid becoming rusty.
The “Solarwave-System” was awarded with the i-NOVO “Energy-Globe-Award” at NauticExpo 2016.
