These islands are in the “Lee” of the wind. In other words, the prevailing trade winds are blowing towards them. This is sheer perfection for sailors, windsurfers and kiteboarders. The islands form a major part of the chain called the Caribbean Lesser Antilles. They extend from the British Virgin Islands in the north to Dominica in the south.
The Leeward Islands consist of the Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Martin, Saint Barts, Anguilla, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saba, Montserrat, Guadeloupe and Dominica. Most of the islands are volcanic, with lush mountains, primeval rain forests, and black and white sand beaches. Offshore coral reefs offer excellent snorkeling spots and world-class shipwreck dives.
