The yacht is graced with an endearing Captain and an award-winning chef. Select Yachts enjoyed lunch and a leisurely chat during the recent BVI Charter Yacht Show. First we gave her five 6’2″ tall staterooms a white glove inspection. Everything was flawless, from the crisp white linens to the understated furnishings. Generous windows in each cabin make the space feel relaxed and inviting.

Guests then gathered on the salon sofa, within chatting distance and view of Chef Nessie making magic in the galley. It seemed like slight of hand as she artfully designed Parmesan cheese bowls to gently cup salad greens with feta cubes and asparagus spears. She selected a delicate French rosé wine to pair with her main course of duck breast on spaghetti squash, which was a perfect elixir for a tropical afternoon.
The shaded cockpit comfortably sat eight of us dining al fresco. Cooled by an afternoon breeze, this was the perfect spot to get lost in the collection of tales, which Captain Sheldon needs little prompting to launch into. From a lifetime of adventures, his repertoire is inexhaustible.
Captain Sheldon says he likes to send guests to ride up on the foredeck, put up the sails, and head for adventure. He’s fine with being under sail all day. The ever-changing tropical landscape in the Virgin Islands is breathtaking. The shades of blue water are remarkable. Taking photographs is irresistible, as is diving off the deck into water so balmy you don’t need to get used to it.
While the Captain makes every effort to keep his bow riders dry, he can’t control the unpredictable sea. Once a guest, who had been perched on the bow and remained dry for an hour, was suddenly soaked by a wave. The Guest stood up, made his way back to the salon, grabbed a towel and dried off. Then he looked the Captain straight in the eye and drawled, “You don’t scare me!”
Zimaya is a comfortable catamaran that lulls you into relaxation. The low-key crew has been chartering for years, and everything runs like clockwork. The yacht is the perfect antidote for stress, a prescription for couples that lead a demanding life at home. Relax, be pampered, slow down, eat well, get soaked!
