SCORPION: 150′ of WOW Factor

Scorpio, 150' San Lorenzo Charter Yacht profile running

SCORPION is Breathtaking

When we asked brokers attending the Antigua Charter Yacht Show for their favorite yacht, always a tough question, SCORPION was on every list. SCORPION is an exhibition of fine art. The lavish décor may not be to everyone’s taste, but neither is every genre of masterpiece.

The Select Yachts team stepped aboard with oohs and aahs that continued throughout. Every inch of the yacht has been thematically considered, artfully designed and meticulously detailed. SCORPION is part palace, part museum and totally extraordinary.

SCORPION launched on May 25, 2015, the eighth hull of San Lorenzo’s successful 46m steel line. The launch ceremony, officiated by an orthodox priest, was attended by everyone involved in the build including the Russian owner with his family and his crew. Ceremonies over, they set a course for summer in the Med, turning heads in every port of call: Malta, Greece, Turkey, France, Italy, Corsica and Sardinia.

The Owner designed the interiors in collaboration with Italian interior designer, Tiziana Vercellesi, who also was responsible for the interior design of the Owner’s previous 40-meter San Lorenzo. For this build, the design brief called for a different theme on every level.

The main deck level is the rainforest. Twenty-five year old bonsai trees flank the entrance to the main salon. Overhead light emits softly from magnificent Murano glass flowers that lead the way further into the main salon. Here a second raised ceiling delivers a constellation of starlight over the sofa seating area.

The organic color palette of greens and browns is complimented by dark mahogany and green veined marble. Furniture by Architema and Fendi, along with custom built chairs and sofas, has an art deco flair. On the forward wall a jungle rendering constructed of microscopic feathers is a remarkable work of art. The guest lobby continues the rainforest theme with a mural and wall pieces. The floors are done with granite galaxy stone, a charcoal granite sprinkled with tiny, snowy flecks.

The master compartment includes an office, walk-in closets, and sumptuous king bed with rainforest wall frieze. The television opposite retracts beneath another feather masterpiece. Picture windows open completely. A spray of twinkling LEDs forms the scorpion constellation in the ceiling. It is a most romantic setting at night, with the sea breeze coming through the windows, the stars stretching to the horizon and the twinkling lights overhead. The master bathroom is exquisite, all lit up to augment the agate, mother of pearl, crystal and gold artistry.

The guest staterooms, positioned on the lower deck level, are fun, light and quirky. The theme of each room is a different city, designed in a different color, London, New York, Moscow and Paris. Each en suite is constructed in matching colored marble and decorated with extraordinary mosaic artwork. The mosaic murals were made in Moscow and sent to Italy with an artist to install them piece by piece during the build.

SCORPION has two VIP and two twin staterooms. The twins have Pullmans and the beds can be pushed together to best accommodate guests. The yacht features Kaleidescape and Apple TV throughout. Individual iPads control the blinds, temperature and audio-visual options. Each stateroom is also equipped with a refrigerator and a safe.

From the main deck up a level to the sky lounge the theme transitions from rainforest green to undersea hues of blue. The intricate artwork in various mediums is a fantasy of marine life.

The saltwater aquarium is a most unusual piece of living art. The tank itself is an elegant work. The crew cares for the fish with daily servings of food and maintenance drugs. The man who installed the tank keeps an eye on everything from Italy. He monitors the system electronically and can tell the crew whether the water is healthy and manage the lighting if the fish are awake or asleep. The tank is home to living coral and many beautiful fish, a black and orange clownfish, several lovely starfish, delicate prawns and a very shy crab that only appears once every couple of weeks.

Outside, the aft deck is equipped to party. Guests can sing along with a high-end karaoke machine, which we are told the Owner uses daily when on board. There is also a state-of-the-art DJ system complete with turntables, huge speakers and disco balls. No matter how hot the party gets, outdoor air conditioning keeps the atmosphere cool.

The sun deck is an open space to fully enjoy, no toy storage here. The table extends to seat 14 guests. The sun beds rotate to face any direction. There are lights everywhere as well as a starry ceiling. An outstanding RGB external lighting system provides multicolor effects, switching to different chromatic shades for a captivating and unique effect. The stews can bathe their exquisite tablescapes with complimentary color, or opt for shifting colors to enhance the party mood. This is understandably the favorite spot for dining.

SCORPION has a fully equipped gym positioned behind the swim platform. The toy garage holds three Jet Skis, one three-seater, one two-seater and one stand-up. There are three Jet Boards, three SeaBobs, two Flyboard sets, and a large compliment of non-motorized toys. When it’s time to relax there’s a sauna to soothe tired muscles and the fourth stew is a licensed masseuse.

SCORPION is a five-deck displacement superyacht in steel designed for long range cruising in total self-sufficiency. She is a speedy vessel, cruising at 14 knots with a maximum speed of 17 knots. The yacht and her outstanding crew of 10 charter seasonally in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
