Select Yachts went aboard luxury charter yacht Katya at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show for an intimate tour and a discussion with the Owner about his vision for the perfect family yacht. His goal was to create an interior with spaces suitable for a family at home on the seas. This flawless charter yacht also boasts a highly skilled crew that is phenomenal with children.
Step on board Katya and feel immediately relaxed and at ease. The main salon features a cozy furniture grouping that beckons a family gathering. A custom buffet with handsomely inlaid columns separates the salon arrangement from the formal dining area. The handsome cabinet is one of many novel embellishments by interior designer Jean-Claude Canestrelli that reflect the Owners’ design objective as he described it to us.
“We’re not really into the real contemporary, so many of those yacht interiors are kind of cold. Our house has got a lot of the same design elements, wood in different veneers and such, that make it very warm and welcoming.
Delta started talking to their interior people and they came up with all these names. I had no clue what they were talking about. So I called Jean Claude and I said Jean Claude did you ever to do a boat? Nope? You want to do one? Yeah sure he said. Interesting enough Jean Claude is French but has been in the US for something like 25 years and has done a couple of houses for us. He travels back and forth and his expertise is stone, marble and wood. His touches are everywhere. The posts on the stairway, he designed all that, they are exquisite.
Other notable features include a recessed medicine cabinet in every bathroom, two in the master bath, so you don’t need to leave things all over the sink. The master also has a washer-dryer, although the crew does a fantastic job, sometimes you might want to do a couple of things yourself.
The yacht is named after little Katarina, the daughter the Owners adopted from Russia as an infant. The diminutive fairy princess is now 12 years old and loves her own, personal cabin on board. The twin bed stateroom is decorated in
shades of pink, pink marble and lovely beaded pink pillows are quite sweet and would delight any child on board, and the chief stewardess tells us that there has been more than one occasion when the adults choose to stay in there as well. When Katya is in residence her room is also filled with a collection of teddies and dolls that are carefully shielded from public exposure. Needless to say, Katya is an extremely popular yacht with families. In fact, last season every charter they had had children on board.
Katya accommodates 12 guests in five staterooms with one Pullman located in the twin guest suite. The yacht and her excellent crew of nine is available for charter in the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas.
