Lady Ann has a new Captain, Sjors Boelaars, who stopped by the Select Yachts office in St. Martin yesterday to introduce himself. While we were thoroughly charmed by his personality, his worldly experience and intellectual diversity are truly impressive.
Sjors (pronounced George) at 25 years old, already has over 11,000 nautical miles of sailing experience that includes a position as flotilla leader and charter crew in Croatia and a recent Atlantic crossing from Palma de Mallorca to St. Martin. He holds the title of Flying Junior European Champion and placed at the Flying Junior World Championship in Japan in 2003.
In addition to being a natural born sailor with a lighthearted demeanor and an endearing personality, Sjors was just awarded a Master Degree in Philosophy of Management and Organizations, the subject of his thesis is ‘Creating Shared Value, Responsible Business Strategies’. He is also very knowledgeable about astral navigation and lectures on the positioning of stars in the night sky. Sjors also includes carpentry and restoration in his impressive roster of work experiences. Hobbies include all watersports and hockey, as well as a keen interest in local arts and culture, which means that shore excursions in his company are certain to be enlightening.
